What it is. Thought everyone could use some electronic bliss to warm them out of the winter doldrums (damn snow!). If you love your house music, you know who the Martinez Brothers are, and URB just dropped a hot podcast of these musical prodigies. If you don’t know who the Martinez Brothers are, your a fuck, do your homework.   -wilderness

The Martinez Brothers were discovered by Dennis Ferrer on myspace.  Supposedly there father sent him a mix and he decided to put them on.  They are only 19 and 16 years old. They go to school during the week and then are rocking out the biggest spots in the world on the weekend.  Lucky ass kids.  They released there first single “My Rendition” a few month’s back on Ferrer’s Objektivity label.  Also check out there newest singles, “Debbie Downer” and “Where’s Mr. Brown”.   -Art Martial

Peep the hotness!  At the end of the video, make sure to click the links to see more videos B.

First off let me start by saying, it was great to see Cozmic Spore back in Detroit. Dude makes me yearn for the warehouse days of yore. We showed up around midnight, and were less than suprised that it was a typical small Oslo crowd. Grabbed a beer and made my way to main room, and was engulfed with hard, pounding techno. As per the norm, there was just a few people who made it away from the bar and were rockin out to some pulsating sounds. Personally I was a big fan of Cosmic Spores set. I’ve dug this dude’s sounds since I bought his Genetic Code EP on Seismic Records back in the day. He never stopped bumpin’ hard ass techno throughout the whole set. There were a couple of remixes he threw in that were not my personal forte’(seriously, “Strings of Life” is a track that should be left to it’s original sound), but he kept it rockin on the decks regardless. Now, the one thing that diminished the overall enjoyment of my evening was Oslo’s shitty ass sound system. The speakers are definitely not made to handle techno that bangs that hard, and sounded like they were going to die at any moment. Cosmic Spore’s set would have sounded amazing in a big warehouse, or a more open space(chop shop anyone?), so I feel it didn’t sound as good as it could have. The crowd size slightly increased as time went on, which is a shame, cause this dude ain’t in the D often, and it’s always nice to see an old head. But like Art Martial always says, there’s never a consistent crowd for electronic music in Detroit. Perhaps I’m just overly nostalgic, but music is aways better in warehouses…….

Cozmic Spore This Friday Night

Cozmic Spore will be performing this Friday at Oslo for $5.  If you don’t know Cozmic Spore has been recording Detroit tunes for Seismic Records since 1998.  With Seismic being no more he has been releasing under his own label Cozmic Spore Records.  I have not heard of him playing in a while so it should be a treat indeed.  Dan Bain of Paxahau will also be playing on this night.  Here is a video of his single “Take a Pill” recorded on Secret Weapon Records to get you pumped.

SoundCloud

Thought I’d turn everone on to one of my new favorite spots for peepin some hot new techno. Ok, well it’s probably not new, and i was probably the last motherfucker to find it, but regardless, it’s the hotness. http://soundcloud.com/ is a place for musicians from all places and spaces to find, post, and trade their latest bleeps and bloops. Yeah, there’s most likely other shit besides electronic, but i ain’t gots time to trifle with all that. Anyway, it’s worth creating an account just to have so much access to dope ass techno, house, and other crazy shit created on computers, drum machines and synths. I’ve been bumpin some great new sounds from Speedy J, Drumcell, and Dustin Zahn. As of the last week or so, I’m lovin some of the dark shit from Steve Parker, peep out his sounds at http://soundcloud.com/steveparker. I wasn’t familiar with the dude till i started to check his shit on this site, and dude’s got some goods. If you like the stranger, bassier side of of shit, Tigerbeat6 has some bumpin’ mixes and tracks up for download. Some tracks can only be listened to, some you can download, but when you really start checkin out some of the artists on here, you’ll most def find something you like. Oh yeah, and if you got some explosive shit you want to start getting around, it’s a great spot to display your electronic mutterings.
