Ah yes… Friday night, another round of drunken rowdiness and house music to shake off the lingering funk of the work week. Friday night found us down at Club Sin for Manifest of Funk. I’ve been to Sin a couple times now, and I have to say it’s a a’ight venue, with one complaint…get some competent bar staff. I haven’t seen Wilhelm K spin in forever, and he was killin’ the old school house tracks and old school rave bangers. We mainly went to check out TP. We here at The Detroit Techno House are longtime dedicated fans. I mean, dude is probably the most consistent house DJ in Detroit, I have yet to see him play set that doesn’t make me wanna start dancing. Friday night, he was on fire, blowin up hot house all through his set. Here’s some video in case you missed it:

Tonight!

So there are some others things going on tonight that were not worth posting in my opinion. If you like that kind of shit then you are already going. If you don’t know what I’m talking about then good.

A lot of people hate Michigan and our drastic changes of season, but me on the other hand, loves it. Four times a year, the weather changes along with our attitudes and perspectives, providing us with a fresh outlook on things. This weekend was definitely a good start to the changes we will be experiencing, visually, physically, and sonically. When I heard Guilty Simpson would be performing with the Will Sessions Band I was totally stoked. This dude is one of the hottest rappers in Detroit and captures the essence of Detroit life in every breath, and Friday night at the Magic Stick, he did not disappoint. The band accompanying him was a nice touch that every rapper in the D should embrace. In my humble opinion, hip-hop these days needs more than just the rapper and DJ thing going on. With the band and appearances from Black Milk and Phat Kat, this show delivered! When they did Take Notice off of J.Dilla’s Ruff Draft I was going crazy ya’ll.

Saturday night took my friend B.Aware and I down to THC in Ham town to witness Mike Huckaby and Jennifer Xerri spinning some smooth deep house. The turn out was pretty good and there were good vibes going around all night. The mixing skill of these two DJ’s is remarkable. They don’t have any fancy gadgets or FX, just vinyl and skills. Xerri really impressed me with her tweaking of the EQ’s while she was mixing. Who needs Xone filters? Isn’t cutting out the EQ’s essentially the same thing, more versatile, and funner to do? The good mixing and good beer at THC Saturday put me in a deep state of mind for sure. I think thats what they are going for, so hats off to THC, Xerri, and Huck for making a perfect saturday night for me.
