After a two week hiatus, and a little needed R&R, we were back in the D on Friday night for our weekly electronic listenings. We started off @ the Works with thoughts of some techno at “Harvest”. We were the a little early, so the crowd was quite scarce, but I caught the first part of Errol’s set, and dud was mixin some dope techno tracks. We decided to shoot across town and see what was happening at Oslo, and try to make it back in time to catch Woody McBride’s set. Oslo was definitely a bit more happening, the crowd was a bit larger and the vibe a bit warmer. The promoter was a super nice dude from Atlanta(I forget his name), but he just seemed super pumped to be doing an event in Detroit. Chez Damier and Kai Alce were tagging some super hot house, and the crowd was loving it. I’ve never seen either of theses guys spin before, but they played some great tracks; Chez Damier was holding it down with some soulful, lyrical house while Kai Alce explored the deeper side of things. They made me forget how much the sound system at Oslo sucks. I kind of wish we would have stayed for the rest of the evening, but decided to peace out instead and head back to the Works to check out Mr. McBride’s acid set. When we got there, the crowd had not grown by much, but for some reason the sound in the back was at a devastating level, almost to the point where things sounded a little distorted(you’ll notice in the video below). Got to hear a bit of Woody McBride’s set, but after about 15 minutes, my ears felt like they were gonna bleed, we decided to get the fuck out. Overall a fun ass night, if you didn’t make it out, here’s a couple videos to bring you up to speed:

Friday night found us down at the Bohemian for to check out Patrick Russell, Drew Pompa and the Chain Reaction Crew. First and foremost I have to say, mad respect to the whole Blank Artists crew, these dude’s know how to throw fun ass parties, and they didn’t disappoint on Friday. I loved the setup, dark and ravey, the way electronic music should be played. Things started off a little minimal for me(if you read this blog often you know too much minimal makes me want to punch baby seals), but around midnight, the house music started pounding interceded with just enough techno to make it thump. Saw lots of old schoolers and and other acquaintances in the crowd that made for a great evening. To be honest, I’m not too familiar with a ton of music on Chain Reaction, but these dude’s knew how to work the crowd. I look forward to more to come from the Blank Artists, keep up the good work guys! Here’s a little video; it’s a little dark(once again dark and ravey…)but it gives you a good feeling of the evening’s vibe. Peace.
