Every time I DJ someone always asks where I get my tracks at. Most people will assume I use some kind of illegal means through torrents and such but that is not the case. Being a turntable enthusiast, I have become quite accustomed to paying anywhere from $7 to $20 for vinyl. Paying $1 or $2 for a digital download is saving me money and time. Still not better than free but sometimes free is stressful. Using torrent sites makes you vulnerable to viruses and is hard to get good quality MP3s. If your DJing regularly, do yourself a favor and reinvest some profits in strengthening your library. So where is a good place to get some techno MP3′s then? Allow me to share a few I use. The first one which is the most obvious is Beatport. I actually get a good amount of stuff off this site. You can pretty much find all of your favorite producers on here. The front end of the site and the charts can definitely get on the clubby “popular” side, but hard techno or deep house can be found here also. They have also seemed to let almost anybody with a computer have a track sold on the site which forces you to search through garbage to find something of quality. I heard they are tightening up because of this though. The next site is Traxsource, which is like Beatport but seems more focused on house. Their Jackin House section is very nice as well as the indie/space disco section. Highly recommended if you like deep, jazzy, or jackin house. If your looking for Detroit techno then Submerge is the way to go. They have tracks from Underground Resistance, Orlando Voorn, DJ 3000, and everyone else related. Vinyl is definitely the focus on their site but there are digital downloads to. I also get good tracks from artists through this site as promo, so send me a track and I might play it. So here are a few places for you to check out. Of coarse there are more, but these are my go to sites for digital music. My day began with a theatrical imaginary food eating performance from an Asian Pokemon princess raver and a 40 year old woman dressed like Raggity Ann with pink hair; feeding each other bites of imaginary berries one by one with the utmost sincerity. The funniest part, immediately after the performance and celebratory dance to the DTM 5×5 set, the Pokemon raver literally pulled out a non imaginary granola bar (Kashi) and began truly eating real food. Coincidence? I think not. Government Conspiracy? I think so… or maybe all the imaginary eating made her hungry.
