Ahhhh…Record Store Day, my favorite holiday of the year. I mean for real, a day dedicated to supporting your favorite independent record store, what could be better for some rabid vinyl collectors like us? Of course we made it down to Detroits number one spot for electronic wax, Detroit Threads. Nice crowd in the store diggin’ the crates, and an amazing selection of tracks, as always. Picked up some amazing cut’s (re-press of “Throw” by Paperclip People!) and got to hear DJ Psycho throw down some hard ass techno. Bonus! Big ups to anyone who made it out to a record store on Saturday, support that local shit, fuck the “all digital” bullshit.

Saturday was also the the Motor Reunion, quite possibly the last electronic event that will be ever thrown at this iconic location. So many wonderful memories fill my mind whenever I reminisce of Motor, but alas, I learned an important lesson this weekend. Don’t sleep on the pre-sales for something like this! I missed out due to my procrastination(and the fact that it was sold the fuck out!). However, thank you Detroit Techno Militia for your massive photographic coverage. Make sure you check out all the pics on their Facebook page. Plus, there are some awesome pics of Record Store Day at Detroit Threads! It was an amazing weekend in Detroit overall, I hope you were there.

This weekend is looking to be a great one!  Head down to The Works on Friday and check out Underground Resistance’s James Pennington(aka. Suburban Knight) and Jammin John Collins.  This charity event, Backpacking for Success, is free before 12 and $5 after.  They are excepting donations of school supplies, so please support the youth and make it out for this event.  Bring an extra backpack you have around and donate it to support the cause.  (The Works 1846 Michigan Ave, Detroit, MI 48216)

Motor, a classic Detroit venue, is holding a reunion party at the famous location in Hamtramck, MI on Saturday.  This used to be the best spot to see DJ’s from around the world and from the D rock it out on a weekly basis.  When I turned 18 I was literally there almost every weekend and sometimes 3 times a week.  Terrence Parker used to spin on Tuesday nights free before 11 o’clock.  It was an awesome venue that remains in many Detroiter’s memories.  So come out this Saturday and experience Motor for the last time.  Kevin Saunderson will be rocking the decks alongside Chuck Flask, Dennis Cox, Gabe Real, Mike Clarke, DJ Minx, Greg Mudge, and Brian Gillespie.  (Motor Lounge 3515 Caniff, Hamtramck, MI)

Also this Saturday is Record Store Day.  Head down to Detroit Threads before the show and check out some local Detroit DJ’s tearin it up and buy some records while your there.  Definitely sounds like Hamtramck is the place to be on Saturday hmmm.  Check out this video of Record Store Day last year and have a great weekend.  (Detroit Threads 10238 Joseph Campau, Hamtramck, MI)

So we all remember Motor, and all the good times had therein.(Unless you aren’t from Detroit) I found this little gem awhile ago so I thought I would post it up. It’s actually a recording of part of the radio show “Maximum Overload” on Detroit’s 89x radio station, from back when the mainstream thought techno was cool. It starts off with the very end of a set by Magda, and the bulk of it is Claude Young banging the hell out of some hard techno. The best part is the clearly intoxicated promoter going on and on over the microphone right before Claude Young takes the decks. Enjoy!
