Our Very First Podcast- DTH Evolved

by Chris Macom

So finally after much heartache and headache, I bring to you the very first episode of The Detroit Techno House Podcast. This first episode contains some choice vinyl records hand picked by Alex and I along with a mix spun by me also. You can expect this to be the core format of this and future podcasts along with guest DJ’s and interviews. We aim to expose our listeners to records they have never heard before, and we plan on doing this by searching uniquely in our environment. With physical crate digging being almost a thing of the past, we will strive to bring a resurgence to this art. With each record find comes an experience that we want to bring to light, hoping to unlock the spirit of Techno, House, and Detroit. Please enjoy and let us know what you think.

Moldover- Inventor/Musician

by Chris Macom

Moldover has got to be the nuttiest musician I have come across in a long time. With so many inventions under his sleeve, I wonder how he even has time to make music. My favorite contraption of his has got to be the Octomasher. Eight midi controllers, each taken apart by him and completely remastered into their own instrument, in which eight people can collaborate together to create an interesting live experience. His music is also extremely good and crosses between multiple genres including IDM, Hip-Hop, Techno, and Rock. He is now touring with his newest invention, Mojo, which is granting him much praise. Make sure to check out his site www.moldover.com for more info on his music and crazy inventions.

21 Dead at Love Parade 2010

by Chris Macom

Along with 500 injured and 25 still in the hospital, this years Love Parade you could say was a complete disaster. The details are still a little strange to me but here is some official news from Festival Pig

“According to the State Chief of Police, Dieter Wehe, the blame for the chain of mistakes by which 500 people were injured rests with the organizers. Initial mistakes were cited as:

1. The opening of the grounds 2 hours before earlier than expected leading to a block in the tunnel. Police found it difficult to control the crowds because of this early start.

2.There were fewer stewards than promised on the day.

3. stewards did not react to an order to close the access points to stop the influx of people.

4. A lack of loud speakers around the tunnel area made it very difficult for police to vocally combat the magnitude of the music and crowds.

Regarding the people who died on the 24th July it seems that as people tried to escape via a concrete set of steps, many were crushed against the railings and steps. This is the area where many people died. Fencing and debris on the ground caused people to trip up, resulting in a pile-on of people. The cause of death on the day was suffocation.

The Interior Minister of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia said’ I find it outrageous that the organizers and the city of Duisburg have absolved themselves of responsibility before all the facts are known’.

Mayor of Duisburg Adolf Sauerland who gave the festival the go-ahead has received calls for his resignation but he has refused. Sauerland has also received death threats.”

A Little Late 90′s Detroit Nostalgia

by Alex Calhoun

So we all remember Motor, and all the good times had therein.(Unless you aren’t from Detroit) I found this little gem awhile ago so I thought I would post it up. It’s actually a recording of part of the radio show “Maximum Overload” on Detroit’s 89x radio station, from back when the mainstream thought techno was cool. It starts off with the very end of a set by Magda, and the bulk of it is Claude Young banging the hell out of some hard techno. The best part is the clearly intoxicated promoter going on and on over the microphone right before Claude Young takes the decks. Enjoy!

Back and better than ever

by Chris Macom

Let me first start off with thanking everybody for your patience during the upgrade of our site.  We’ve experienced a lot of blood, sweat, and tears in the process and are finally able to bring you the next level of The Detroit Techno House.  We are working hard on many new ways to bring you fresh content, and to do that, we rely heavy on subscriber feedback.  So please feel free to suggest something that you think can make this site better.  To start off on a good note, I’ve created an inspirational mix of House music for you to download and share.  Expect in the future to find many more mixes by myself and others along with a monthly podcast.  Thanks again and enjoy!
