Review: Kill-a-watt, The Works, 1/31/09

When the temperatures get cold, its always a joy to warm up with some house and techno ona Saturday night. The Works drew a good sized crowd last night for another electronic throw down. We got there around midnight and house music was banging hard in the front room. I’m not sure who the live p.a. in the back room was, two dudes with a cacophony of electronic gear. Their set was spaced out, alien invasion type techno, which was good, but i was constantly holding my breath for them to drop some deeper, harder drums, only to be let down. The Works has good speakers, if your gonna bang it, bang it hard. It was a bitch getting a drink throughout the night, there was one bartender who moved slow as hell. Terrance Parker went on around 1 and dropped a set full of his trickery behind the decks. The crowd was quite eclectic, as is to be expected at The Works, but thank god not a bunch of raver mutants from beyond. It’s always good to see Terrance Parker in Detroit, and its great that people are throwing decent events with a recession price($5!). Oh and big ups to the guys playing pool in the middle of a crowded dance floor.
