Last Night I finally got a chance to get out and see some electronic music for a change. Thanks to an invite from old friend Shea Thomas, who helped coordinate this event, we got to hear some great Detroit sounds! Unfortunately we missed Shea Thomas’ set, but from what I heard he held it down. We walked in about 12:15am and the party was in full swing. Northern Lights Lounge, a place I had not been, was as inviting and well kept. The bar staff was attentive and pleasant, prices were good ($4 Red Stripe), and the vibe was old school Detroit. Eric Johnston had just begun to kick things up when we walked in, and he did not stop with quality grooves all night. A well thought out selection of House, Tech House, Minimal, and maybe even a touch of Disco, left us pleasantly guessing with each mix. I found myself very impressed with the track selection, and maybe desiring a bit more from the mixing, but overall it was a very good set. People danced like animals, and one girl kept pulling her dress up to show her 80’s tights (not impressed). As far as a night goes in the D, I would have to say it was a success. Thanks to Shea and Eric for truly providing some Homegrown Sound.
