When thinking back over the last year in electronica, it’s hard to think of many artists who have been as prolific as Maceo Plex. Between a tour schedule spanning the globe and a healthy dose of productions, this dude has been on fire in 2012.
Maceo Plex a.k.a. Eric Estornel (Having also released tracks under Maetrik and a host of other aliases) was born in the States, and is currently living abroad in Spain. His sound tends to ride the line between deep house and techno sounds, sometimes even bordering into nu disco territory. One thing Maceo Plex always does well is making crowds move. His set at Movement in Detroit this past May was by far one of my favorites of the whole weekend. If you can make a crowd get crazy early in the afternoon, you’re doing it right.
Over the past year, Maceo Plex has seen a nice string of releases on labels like Ellum Audio, Crosstown Rebels, Leftroom, and Cocoon Recordings. My personal favorite was “Space Junk” released on Ellum, and pressed to genuine vinyl.

Currently, Maceo Plex is trekking the globe, playing gigs from Europe to the Middle East. I would love to see this dude swing through Detroit again soon, but alas, I may have to await Movement 2013. In the meantime, if your not abroad, and able to see Maceo Plex live, make sure to get your groove on to these mixes.
