GS WAVEPioneer, known in the club world for their CD turntables and mixers, are heading into the field of club sound design. With the help of Gary Stewart Audio, they have developed the GS-Wave and XY series with aspirations of taking on the “top dogs” of club sound, Function One. While the Functions push design boundaries with their futuristic appearance, Pioneer is opting for a more traditional look for their speaker cabinets.

As far as the sound goes, only time and our ears will tell. At the moment, this new system is being installed in Ibiza hot spots and other clubs around the world, and soon enough a club near you should have a setup. If Pioneer accomplishes their goal of becoming the best in club audio, then they will have a complete choke hold on everything hardware related in most electronic music establishments.

While the functionality of Pioneer hardware has always been top notch, not all of their products have had inspiring sound. Not that the sound is bad, there are just other options that tend to be better and cheaper. It will be interesting, none the less, to see how Pioneer plays the club audio game.
